El Once
9 de Julio
New York Tango Trio (Jaurena, Aslan, Iverson)
both pieces from Cabarute – a great album of dance music!
Pablo Aslan (double bass) is a multi-talented person. He is a musician,
coach, tango historian & a mesmerizing speaker on subject of
tango.
As a musician, he plays both – jazz & tango. His last album, Buenos Aires Tango Standards (online
play & review), recorded with the
top-notch Argentine jazz musicians, is a very bold experiment in
tango. The old tangos sound… well… like jazz. Check it out.
Pablo Aslan recorded & performed also with his group Avantango and The Tango Group (among numerous other artists – see
more here) |

Chicque
Triesteza
both from Amor Por El Tango, the mix of lovely pieces
(some are original compositions like Triesteza) for
dancing and listening, produced by Soundbrush recordings.
The
Tango Group is lead by Roger Davidson (piano) and Pablo Aslan
(double bass). |

Corazón De Oro
Ensueño
from 4-volume set Pa’Milongueros, which contains the
tried and true tango favorites, performed by this great duo just
like the dancers like it. You can purchase these CDs
(separately) and other albums by Tito Castro (solo and quintet)
by emailing Flor Castro or calling 917-837-6857 (USA).
Francisco
Navarro truly shines as a guitar virtuoso on his solo CD Sweet
Guitar. Also, check out the winning soundtrack to
movie Frida, where Navarro plays on many tracks – really
great stuff. |

Boedo
from yet-to-be released album.
Brunetti is an uniquely
talented tango pianist, who can play tango like no other modern
pianist. It is not my personal opinion (I am not a music
expert), but of those, who really do know about tango.
Octavio Brunetti recorded Soledad with Yo-Yo Ma on
album Appassionato and appeared on the album Te Amo Tango by Raul Jaurena (see below).
I will let you know when Brunetti’s solo album will come out
- do not miss it!
A Mancuso
from Te Amo Tango, awarded 2007 Latin Grammy award -
that’s pretty much sums it up about the quality of music on this
CD, which has a bit of everything – new and old, for dancing and
for listening.
About Jaurena and his bandoneon: “Few people
can play it like Raul Jaurena – he literally embraces it and
elicits from it the whole range of emotions that this unique
instrument is able to evoke.” |

Milonga De Mis Amores
from 4-volume set Pa’Milongueros. See above.
El Patiecito
from Estacion Buenos Aires, the first CD of this very
talented sax player born and raised in Buenos Aires, who
performs in NY quite often.
Monk’s second album Ponele la
Firma was released in 2007. The most of the compositions are
Monk’s own, including a title track Ponele la Firma, a
piece of great energy – I never get tired of listening to it! The whole album is
an original, polished production by the artist who is very
demanding towards himself. |

Montana
from Tango Dreams,
the solo album by the young bandoneon player, which contains three
tracks of tango electronica. Juan Pablo is a recent capable addition to
the New York tango music scene.
